The mandolin is a form of lute that originated in Naples, Italy. It has a pear-shaped back and gut strings set in pairs. It has become my favorite instrument, surpassing that of the guitar and drums. When the mandolin is strutted, I believe the musician becomes the played, while the mandolin becomes the player.
